Speeding sports car kills couple

A vehicular accident involving a sports car claimed the lives of a couple in Iloilo City on Saturday.

Joe Marie Osano and his wife Alnie Dinah were crossing a pedestrian lane along a diversion road in Mandurriao, Iloilo City when they were hit by a speeding white Mazda MX5 that was driven by June Paul Valencia, according to a report by the Iloilo Metropolitan Times.

The couple, a principal and a teacher at Ticud Elementary School, were pronounced dead on arrival upon reaching separate hospitals.

Investigation revealed that Valencia attempted to flee from the area of the incident but was stopped by another vehicle in front of Diversion 21 Hotel, according to report.

The driver, who was later released from police custody after posting P60,000 bail, will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide, the Iloilo Metropolitan Times reported.

Meanwhile, Allan Calunsod, the driver of the vehicle that stopped Valencia from fleeing, said that that the Mazda overtook him before the incident occurred. – With reporting from Iloilo Metropolitan Times
