10-wheeler truck kills 9 in Davao City

A winged 10-wheeler truck that went wayward killed at least nine people, including a two-year-old toddler, in Matina Pangi, Davao City on Tuesday.

Authorities said that the truck was loaded with sacks of rice and was traveling along the diversion road around 9 a.m. when the driver lost control of its brakes — causing the trucks to plow through parked vehicles and pedestrians.

A report from The STAR said that at least seven people were killed instantly in the vehicular accident, while one of the several people who were rushed to the hospital died upon arrival.

The two-year-old boy was reportedly found under a pile of sacks of rice an hour after the incident, the report said. The toddler was with his mother while on board a tricycle when the incident occurred. – With reporting from Edith Regalado/STAR
