11 killed in Rizal, Cavite road crashes

A total of 11 people were killed in separate road crashes yesterday. 

Nine died while five others were injured after a truck crashed into a dump truck and jeepney in Cardona, Rizal on Tuesday.

According to initial investigation, the truck, which was loaded with sand, hit dump truck and a jeepney loaded with workers and students. The dump truck fell into a ravine due to the impact while the jeepney was almost cut in half.

Among the fatalities were three students along with the driver of the dump truck. Victims were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The accident caused heavy traffic along the LLDA Road in Barangay Looc. 

Meanwhile, two died while 20 were injured in a 14-vehicle smashup in Indang, Cavite.

The STAR reported that two tricycle drivers involved in the incident died while they were being rushed to separate hospitals.

According to the police, the truck driver lost control of the vehicle as it was traveling along the Mendez-Indang road in Barangay Poblacion II at around 7:15 a.m., when it collided with two tricycles along with others vehicles parked in the area.

Authorities said that the truck driver, who was treated for head injuries, will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and injuries and damage to property. – Non Alquitran, Emmanuel Tupas, Ed Amoroso
