It seems fitting that Hyundai Motor Philippines (HMPM) has two ‘star’ models and was able to actually have a stellar year for themselves. They consistently made headlines for bringing in the best cars like the award winning Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and taking it close to the people who need it – but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Sales matter for sure but things are more than that. Find out how Hyundai Motor Philippines achieved significant growth in 2024 and their plans for this year in this writeup.
2024 Sales Jumped 32% from 2023
Hyundai finished 2024 in the 8th spot for overall New Car Sales in the Philippines with a remarkable 32% growth. This is much higher than even the top 5 brands had for the same period. It’s not surprising too as HMPH worked hard on making sure their cars are visible in highly populated areas all year long.
12,023 units sold in 2024
Their position in the rankings might have stayed the same, but Hyundai finally went back to 5 digit car sales for 2024 with 12,023 units sold. This is a significant jump from their performance in the previous year where they finished 2023 with 9,130.
Last Month Shopping
Some took their time before making their decision, while others waited for their bonuses before they signed those forms. Whatever the reason may be, December proved to be HMPH’s most fruitful month with 1,257 units sold in that month alone.
Star Models
Hyundai might be making headlines globally with the Ioniq 5 N but in the Philippines, a totally different car put it up in the rankings.
- Hyundai Stargazer
The Stargazer is the brand’s top notcher in sales for 2024, accounting for half of the overall sales volume. It’s not surprising given that its deviation from the traditional MPV design will certainly appeal to those looking for a ride that’s unique on the road. Combine this with a highly functional cabin that has a lot of cubby holes and families will find it amusing to own for their daily drive. It’s also the first to make Advanced Driver Assist System available in this segment with features like Lane Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist.
- Hyundai Staria
Filipinos’ love for so-called ‘artista vans’ were really manifested with the Hyundai Staria as it moved to the garages of 1,623 new owners in 2024. Hyundai has done a remarkable job in making this huge van far from being a monolith. It may be sharing the front light bar with the Stargazer but the Staria has a far more classy low-position headlight assembly complemented by dark chrome or brass finish on the grille. The wheels too are finished in those two options and give off an industrial yet luxurious vibe. Rear lights were done in a pixelated manner that made the flat rear look interesting. Making it available in 3, 7, 9, and 11-seater configurations made it versatile to many groups of people.
- Hyundai H100
Hyundai’s strength isn’t only in passenger cars but light commercial ones as well. The Hyundai H100 is a formidable offering in its segment proven by the 1,212 units sold in 2024. It has a more contemporary rounded design, available with air conditioning, center-mounted shifter, and additional stopping power thanks to disc brakes in front. Its biggest draw is the cabin which is very car-like unlike others in its class. The H100 is also available in a variety of bed liner finishes to make it fit better for your intended purposes.
- Hyundai Custin
The Hyundai Custin is a subtle charmer in HMPH’s lineup, selling 1,206 units. It looks like an MPV until you discover that it’s a minivan thanks to the power sliding doors on the second row where you will be greeted with captain seats or Premium Relaxation Seats for the higher trim. The main attraction of the Custin is the creature comforts it has. There’s Dual Sunroof, Rear Sunshades, Foldable Tray at the back of the front passenger seat, Front and Rear Wireless Chargers, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
- Hyundai Santa Fe
Perhaps the most polarizing car in Hyundai’s lineup is the Hyundai Santa Fe. Its arrival signified the arrival of Hyundai’s new generation of design. It redefined what an SUV for the outdoors should look like and is unapologetic by its sheer size and boxiness. This brazen attitude is the reason why it was also selected to introduce Hyundai’s hybrid system here in the Philippines that has up to 367 Nm of torque. It also didn’t shy away from providing creature comforts such as Tri-Zone Climate Control, Powered Tailgate for all trims, and Dual Sunroof.
Expanded Nationwide Access
Apart from bringing in new cars to offer to Filipinos, HMPH also opened new doors in the country – 6 to be exact. There’s Hyundai Cebu Talisay, Hyundai Abad Santos in Manila, Hyundai Bacoor in Cavite, Pop-Up stores in Marilao, Bulacan and Palawan. It was topped off by Hyundai Cagayan de Oro which is their latest showroom and brings the total number of Hyundai dealerships in the country to 36.
New Models to Choose From
Shifting to this year, we can expect HMPH to bring in updated or new offerings for the Philippines. The optimist in me is looking forward to the more attainable EV in Casper Electric, or the 3-row EV crossover in the Ioniq 9. They could also bring in later in the year the updated Palisade which has a more imposing design. Another option would be the 6th generation Hyundai Accent which is a global model for the brand.
Sustained Visibility
HMPH will no doubt continue doing showcase activities for 2025. This includes the Manila International Auto Show, as well as the biggest test drive event in Metro Manila – the Auto Focus Test Drive Festival.
Future owners will also see their dream Hyundai in the metal through Hyundai Mobility Experience that is toured nationwide. Current owners can also expect the continuation of the Hyundai Before Service where they give free vehicle check ups in specific dealerships for a limited time.
As the year finally sets in, expect Hyundai to begin their charge for a more fruitful year in the Philippines. 2025 will definitely bring more focus to their ethos ‘Moving forward together’ and bringing the Hyundai experience to more people.
