Beauty & Brains: All-new Mazda3 wins 2020 World Car Design of the Year Award

Plus Brawn: One of the safest cars in US IIHS history

I’ve always felt that Mazda currently makes the consistently most stylish range of cars and SUVs not just in the Philippines, not just in Japan, but in the world.

And now after being shortlisted as a Top Three Finalists for the 2020 World Car Design of the Year Award last March, the all-new Mazda3 has been awarded by 86 jurors from 24 countries who made up the World Car Awards panel, as the winner for having the best design among all contending cars for the 2020 World Car Awards season. A consensus of 86 jurors is certainly much better than a second opinion.

The Mazda3 is also a Top Three Finalist for this year’s World Car of the Year award together with the all-new Mazda CX-30 crossover. This is also the second time Mazda was awarded the World Car Design Of The Year trophy after the MX-5 roadster won both the World Car of the Year as well as the World Car Design of the Year title in 2016.

“The new Mazda3’s minimalist and sophisticated evolved-KODO design language of “beauty through subtraction” is the foundation for its function and purpose. We are proud to share with our customers the all-new Mazda3, a car so highly regarded around the world for pushing the boundaries of aesthetics, quality of finish, class and style,” says Steven Tan, president and CEO of Mazda Philippines. “To be praised by an elite panel of design icons and automotive journalists in the World Car Awards truly says volume about the Mazda3’s innate beauty and superior design. And to be recognized as the winner of the 2020 World Car Design of the Year title against equally exquisite cars shows the unanimous praise for Mazda’s “Car As Art” Design philosophy.

“Ultimately, it is our clients who are the true winners with every Mazda they drive. Because of this award, they can stand high and fully appreciate the choice they made, the same choice that will serve them admirably for the years to come,” Tan added.

With more than 6 million units sold globally since 2003 and with more than 19,000 of them in the Philippines, the Mazda3 is the most popular vehicle in Mazda’s Philippine portfolio. The Mazda3 had always pushed the boundaries for design innovation, engineering and craftsmanship for the brand. As the first Mazda model to adopt the more mature Evolved Kodo design interpretation that espouses the simplicity and purity of Japanese aesthetics, the Mazda3 continues to adopt a human-centric design philosophy that maximizes human balance and connectivity making it so inviting and simply joyful to drive.

With recent significant recognitions such as the prestigious 2019 Red Dot: Best of the Best Design Award, the 2020 Canadian Car of the Year, the 2020 China Car of the Year, the 2020 Thailand Car of the Year, the latest Mazda3 continues with the nameplate’s proven record for groundbreaking design, class-above build quality, outstanding performance and unassailable value.

The new Mazda3 likewise establishes its superiority in safety with i-Activsense, a suite of active and passive structural and safety systems that provide maximum protection for the driver and the car’s passengers. By gaining the highest score ever of 98% in adult protection and a 5-Star Rating by EURO NCAP (European New Car Assessment Program), the 2020 Mazda3 has become one of a handful of cars that provide the best safety performance for its occupants in the world today. And with the new Mazda3 being awarded the United States’ IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) Top Safety Pick+ title this 2020, it has now become one the IIHS’s safest cars for ten straight years with superior ratings in crash worthiness, crash avoidance and mitigation.

The new Mazda3, as with all new Mazdas in the Philippines, comes with standard YOJIN3 3-Year Free Preventive Maintenance Service (including oil, parts and labor), and an after-sales service record ranked No.1 in the 2019 and 2016 J.D. Power Customer Service Index Study.
