Motorists should ready themselves for heavy traffic as delegates of the 30th Southeast Asian Games are set to convene for the closing ceremony of the sporting event at the New Clark Athletics Stadium today, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

In an advisory, the MMDA said that a stop-and-go scheme will be implemented on EDSA and other major roads in the metro starting 1 p.m. on Wednesday to give way to the convoy of delegates that will be coming from various hotels across the metropolis.

The agency said that at least 114 buses and other types of vehicles will be traveling Metro Manila thoroughfares to the stadium in New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac.

Starting 1 p.m., the MMDA said that motorists should avoid the yellow lane, lanes leading to flyovers as well as tunnels or underpasses along EDSA to give way to the SEA Games convoy.

According to the agency, the convoy will pass through the entrance of Ayala and Shaw Boulevard tunnel/underpass on EDSA’s northbound lane, while delegates will also cut through the southbound lane after Shaw and Ayala.

The MMDA will deploy traffic personnel in key areas in the metro to facilitate the movement of the convoy.

The agency started the implementation of its stop-and-go scheme on EDSA, Roxas Boulevard, Quezon Avenue, and other major roads in Metro Manila since the beginning of the major sporting event.
