DOTr eyes home delivery of driver’s licenses, motor vehicle plates

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is eyeing to implement the home delivery of driver’s licenses and motor vehicle plates as part of the government’s digitalization program.

During President Duterte’s public briefing on Thursday evening, Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade bared the agency’s plans ahead of the implementation of the less strict general community quarantine (GCQ).

Tugade said that they’re planning for the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to implement the home delivery of driver’s licenses and car plates as part of its modernization initiatives.

“‘Yung mga lisensya at plaka… yung renewal ng plaka at lisensya… hindi ka na ho pupunta… plano namin sa LTO offices, ide-deliver ho ‘yun ng courier,” he said.

Apart from improving public service, Tugade said that the initiative will pave the way for the agency to verify if the listed address in the motorist’s application is authentic.

“This is one way also of making sure that addresses dun sa nag-issue ng lisensya ay totoo. Kasi ang nangyayari ho ngayon, pag nagkakaron tayo ng problema sa kalsada at hahanapin mo ‘yung address.. wala ho dun,” Tugade said.”

Meanwhile, Tugade also said the agency will be launching an online application and issuance of driver’s licenses as part of its digitalization program.

“Alam ninyo ho ba, ‘yung lisensya ngayon pupunta ka sa LTO dun mo kukunin? Ngayon, minsan ‘yung address nila, problema ho yan hindi totoo. Magkakaroon po kami ng online issuance and application,” Tugade said.
