The southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard is passable once again after the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) closed it last month for repairs.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, Public Works and Highways Sec. Mark Villar announced the completion and reopening of the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard.
“The southbound lane of Roxas Blvd is now complete and open to the public. #BuildBuildBuild.” Villar’s post says.
Last May 21, the DPWH closed the southbound lane to traffic in order to conduct repair work on the road after inspectors found cracks forming in the area.
Manila City government gave the green light for DPWH to commence work but Mayor Isko Moreno stipulated that repairs must be done by June 25, as the city won’t grant an extension.
Rehab and repair work covered a section that included Remedios Street and a drainage system in Malate.
The area round Remedios St. made headlines in June 2019 when a 14-wheeler truck loaded with sand fell into a “sinkhole” after portions of the pavement collapsed under the truck’s weight. The incident caused heavy traffic and prompted authorities to issue advisories.
