EDSA barrier accidents rise to 94 – MMDA

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) recorded a total of 94 concrete barrier-related accidents along the stretch of EDSA from June 1 to August 23.

According to MMDA traffic czar Edison Nebrija, most of the drivers who crashed their vehicles against the barriers were drunk or fell asleep behind the wheel.

In a report by The STAR, two sport utility vehicles (SUVs) figured in an accident along the highway on Monday. The first SUV reportedly plowed five barriers after avoiding a truck while the second SUV rammed two barriers along Shaw Boulevard.

Meanwhile, a total of 5,000 concrete barriers have been installed along the highway while 36,000 more barriers will be set up to segregate the Busway from the other lanes of EDSA.

However, some of the concrete barriers have already been replaced with steel bollards following a series of accidents. – Danilo Garcia
