Elusive dump truck driver faces revocation of license for reckless driving

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has asked the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to revoke the license of a dump truck driver who was caught plying EDSA on Friday evening and refused to be summoned by traffic enforcers.

In a report by The Philippine Star, MMDA general manager Jojo Garcia wrote to LTO assistant secretary Edgar Galvante requesting to revoke the license of Rondal Auro.

“The driver wanted to escape apprehension from our enforcers. The video will show that the truck driver endangered commuters especially our traffic enforcers’ lives. In that light, we would like to request your good office to revoke the driver’s license of the erring driver,” Garcia said in his letter.

In a Facebook video, a car chase ensued when the traffic enforcers of the MMDA spotted a dump truck illegally plying the Santolan-Annapolis portion of EDSA.

The video showed the truck swerving through traffic in an attempt to evade the MMDA mobile in front of it. After the chase, the errant driver decided to stop to face the enforcers. Upon confrontation, however, the driver again attempted to flee the area but was finally cornered at the P. Tuazon underpass in Cubao.

According to MMDA traffic czar Bong Nebrija, the driver was charged for violating the truck ban. He also faces additional charges of reckless imprudence and reckless driving.
