Smartphones are commonplace now. From being a luxury accessory, they have become an essential part of everyday life. Today, the game-changing smartphone tech is the foldable design. Leading this cutting-edge form factor is Chinese electronics giant, Huawei, with its stunning P100,000-plus Mate X smartphone.
The Mate X looks like a rather thick traditional smartphone—until you unfold it. Then it becomes a sleek and thin tablet-like device with a spectacular square-shaped high-definition screen.
The magic comes from the crystal-clear glass-like screen but which is actually a space-age foldable plastic that looks and feels like glass and has the high-definition resolution found in the most expensive phones.
But it’s not just the exterior that’s newsworthy. Inside the Mate X are killer specs that can stand toe to toe with the best from America and Korea: an octa-core CPU running on Android 9.0 OS, 512GB of storage memory, 8GB of RAM, and a quad camera with up to 40MP resolution shooting through Leica lenses. It truly raises the bar in smartphones.
Similar state-of-the-art technology may be found in all the models of leading Chinese automaker Chery. The exterior design of the new Tiggo 8 is crafted by world-renowned British automotive designer, Kevin Rice, who studied at London’s Royal College of Art.
But the cool exclusive feature of the Tiggo 8 is its standard Chery Smartwatch Key. It’s the industry’s first-ever wearable device. Much like how modern smartwatches wirelessly syncs with your smartphone, the Chery Smartwatch Key connects with the Tiggo 8.
The Smartwatch Key, which looks like a sleek fitness band, has a rubber strap and a digital display that offers seven main functions that control various functions of the car remotely. These include locking and unlocking the car, remote engine start/stop (including remotely turning the aircon on), opening and closing the windows, remote trunk opening, incoming call reminders, audible/vibrate alarms, and heart rate monitoring.
Chery’s Smartwatch Key also serves as a fitness tracker. It recognizes your body’s movements and lets you view your whole-day sports record as well as reports for weekly, monthly, and yearly records via downloadable Chery sports app. It also has 24hour/365-day heart rate monitoring with graphical representations as well as sports target setting and target achievement reminder. It even has a sedentary reminder and a calorie consumption recorder.
The Chery Smartwatch Key even helps you sleep better by recording sleep quality as well as time of deep sleep and light sleep and also generating graphical representations for easier reading and comparisons. It is also waterproof to 3ATM (30 meters), so you could wear it for swimming, surfing, snorkeling or diving.
The motion-activated Chery Smartwatch Key also serves as a very useful productivity tool when synced with your Apple or Android smartphone. The Chery Smartwatch Key offers a Message Reminder, pushing your phone calls and messages, and also allows you to answer and reject calls from your wrist. It also supports multi-lingual use, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic. It even has a low-power mode to extend battery life and a Find Your Phone function that helps you look for misplaced phones. Like most smartphones and fitness trackers, operating system (OS) upgrades are available over the air (OTA).
The Chery Smartwatch Key comes with every Tiggo 8, Chery’s midsize 7-seater flagship model, which has a retail price of P1,280,000 for the 1.5T Luxury variant and P1,340,000 for the 1.5T Luxury EX. The Tiggo 8 is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-4 Euro 5-compliant petrol engine (developing 145hp and 210Nm of torque) mated to a 6-speed Twin Dynamic Shift automatic DCT, which uses the same technology found in the DCT’s of the BMW M3 and various Porsches, combining manual transmission performance and fuel economy with an automatic’s convenience.
Infotainment is one of the most important features for new cars today. The Tiggo 8 boasts a large 10-inch Ultra-High-definition touchscreen display with smartphone Bluetooth/USB connectivity and mirroring. Other high-tech luxury-car features include full-digital instrument clusters, touchscreen aircon controls, front and rear sensors, LED headlights and taillights, 6-way power seat adjustments, panoramic sunroof, rear aircon vents, cruise control, auto-on headlights, headlight-off delay, smart entry system with push-button start, remote control windows, and 360-degree Around-View Monitor.
Advanced tech applies to safety systems as well. The Chery Tiggo 8 also comes with features usually found in European luxury cars: dual front/side/curtain airbags, ABS plus Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assist, Traction Control, Hill-start Assist Control, Hill Descent Control, and Reversing Assist Monitor with Dynamic Guidelines.
More technology comes from the new Chery Auto PH App, the new app available for download on Google Play Store for Android smartphones (an iOS version for iPhones to follow soon).
The Chery Auto PH app functions as a digital showroom where customers can check out Chery’s vehicle models and their specs, see the list of all Chery dealerships nationwide, request and schedule a test drive, book an appointment for car maintenance and repair, order spare parts, inquire about specific Chery models, and request for a quotation for the Chery model they are interested in.
