All-new Audi Q6 e-tron showcases self-driving technology, ‘Digital Stage’

The all-new Audi Q6 e-tron takes convenience and safety in everyday trips to a new level through an array of intelligent systems that allow its advanced features to function seamlessly.

Leading the advanced features is the Q6 e-tron’s self-driving technology. Benefiting from Audi’s holistic approach to automated driving, the Q6 e-tron’s system uses numerous sensors to constantly monitor the vehicle’s surroundings.

When the Q6 e-tron’s adaptive cruise control is activated, it automatically maintains a pre-selected speed and adjusts for changes should the vehicle in front slows down. It also determines the ideal distance from the vehicle in front, and will react instantaneously.

In stop-and-go traffic, the self-driving system can slow the Q6 e-tron to a standstill, and can also set it off again without driver intervention.

When combined with the lane departure assist that keeps the vehicle between lane markings on the road (even steering it around bends), the Q6 e-tron is able to provide self-driving functions under certain conditions.

Fitted to the cabin of the new Q6 e-tron Performance are equally advanced features.

Foremost among these is the Audi Digital Stage that consists of three main screens: the 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit, 14.5-inch Audi MMI panoramic touch display, and the 10.9-inch MMI passenger touch display.

The Audi Digital Stage consists of three main screens — the 11.9-inch virtual cockpit, 14.5-inch MMI panoramic touch display, and the 10.9-inch MMI passenger touch display — that control and access infotainment, navigation, convenience, and vehicle functions

The virtual cockpit, which shows a variety of vehicle information, and the MMI panoramic display are placed on the slim, free-standing curved panel with OLED technology. This curved panel is oriented toward the driver.

The MMI panoramic display provides access to infotainment, climate, navigation, and smartphone functions. The MMI passenger display lets the front-seat occupant manage navigation and entertainment options without distracting the driver.

All three displays provide a seamless and user-friendly digital experience.

The infotainment functions of the new Audi MMI panoramic display and MMI passenger display now use Android Automotive OS as their operating system. Smartphones can be paired with the MMI systems via Android Auto and Apple Carplay.

Above the Audi Digital Stage, projected on the windshield, is the augmented reality head-up display (AR HuD). It provides information such as speed, navigation directions, and symbols regarding the distance of the vehicle in front, as well as for the adaptive cruise control to aid safety while driving. It also has a gaming function, designed to keep drivers entertained while the Q6 e-tron is charging.

Offering more visual communication cues for the Audi Digital Stage is the dynamic interaction light (IAL).

A light strip spanning the width of the cockpit, IAL has three main functions, namely as a welcome greeting when the car is locked and unlocked, an additional visual safety reminder by duplicating the dynamic indicator light on the exterior, and as charging status indicator.

Powering the new Q6 e-tron is a single Permanent magnet Synchronous Motor (PSM) mounted at the rear.

The motor delivers 326 horsepower and 485 Nm of torque. It is equipped with a 100 kWh battery, allowing the vehicle to travel up to 640 kilometers on a full charge (as WLTP-rated).

As Audi continues to push the boundaries of electric mobility, the Q6 e-tron’s array of technologically advanced systems represents a forward-thinking approach to convenient and safe driving.
