Nissan’s all-new Patrol is a bold leap forward

Since 1951, the Nissan Patrol has proven to be one of the most iconic Japanese SUVs ever produced. It has cemented its status with legendary off-road capability and a matching luxury feature set to match.

With much clamor and fanfare around the Y63 generation’s debut in the Middle East late last year, it’s no surprise that the Philippines is the second market for it to launch globally as it is beloved just as much locally.

The latest version of the Patrol is priced at P5,385,000 and comes in one specification (LE) in four colors: Granite Black, Gun Metallic with Black Roof (+P20,000), Everest White (+P30,000), Everest White with Black Roof (+P50,000).

The Patrol grows to 5,350mm long, 2,115mm wide, and 1,945mm tall. It has a bold new face with the latest iteration of the V-Motion grille, a “double C” motif for the headlights, fender vents, and rear taillights that are connected by a light bar. It also rides on two-tone, 20-inch multi-spoke wheels.

Underneath the hood is a 3.5-liter, twin-turbo gasoline V6 mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. You might think the downsized engine produces less power than the 5.6-liter V8 in the previous Patrol, but it makes more power at 431hp and 700Nm of torque, while being more fuel efficient.

It comes with an adaptive air suspension, which not only improves ride comfort, handling, and aerodynamics, but also makes ingress, egress, and cargo loading easier. Despite this, it’s very capable off-road with four-wheel drive and a two-speed transfer case, an electronic locking rear differential, and a six-mode drive/terrain mode selector.

The all-new Patrol’s interior is a technical tour-de-force with all its new tech compared to the previous generation.

Two 14.3-inch screens are joined together in a single housing and is paired to a 12-speaker Klipsch Premium Audio system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, both wireless, are supported, and a wireless charger alongside multiple USB-C ports.

A triple-zone climate control system has a biometric temperature sensor and ionizer to keep the occupants comfortable even with the panoramic sunroof open, and there is a cool box in the center storage to keep drinks chilled.

The quilted leather interior upholstery comes in tan, but you can also order it in beige and burgundy at no extra charge. It’s capable of seating up to eight, and the front seats use Nissan’s Zero Gravity tech, support power adjustments, heating and ventilation, and memory functions.

The second-row bench is very spacious, and has a center armrest and two 12.8-inch screens for rear entertainment. Meanwhile, the third-row bench is capable of power folding and reclining, allowing for generous cargo space.

Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility suite of advanced driver assistance systems are enhanced by the ProPILOT system, which combines intelligent cruise control with stop and go functionality and lane-keeping assistance for more effortless and safer drives, and the 360-degree camera now gets features such as a 3D view, invisible hood view, and ultra-wide view, making this one of the safest and feature-packed SUVs on the market today.
