Geely’s 200,000 steps for a sustainable future

They say that if you want to be good at something, you must spend 10,000 hours doing it. Geely Holding Group took this to the next level as they took 200,000 steps towards the next generation of vehicles, or by selling that many electrified cars in 2020 alone.

Geely Holding is the parent company of Geely Auto, the brand that’s locally known for their Coolray, Azkarra, and Okavango. Outside of the country, they have other brands that have all contributed in achieving this milestone.

Volvo, the luxury brand from Sweden, was able to push out more of their electric and plug-in hybrid models despite the challenging situation of 2020. This only empowers the whole company to further improve and achieve their goal of having 50% of their brand’s sales come from electrified vehicles by 2025.

Polestar, which focuses on electric performance cars, delivered their Polestar 2 ahead of schedule during the second half of last year. Meanwhile, Lynk & Co opened their first Club in Amsterdam, took orders for their hybrid 01 car and is currently using a subscription model to offer their hybrid and electric cars in a more flexible manner.

For markets that are not yet equipped with chargers and other electric requirements, Geely Auto was there to give them hybrid powertrain options so people can enjoy the benefits of a greener system. This includes their Okavango and Azkarra that has the Electric Motor Synergy system that allows the gas engine to shut down when idle and stuck in traffic or if you’re downhill and coasting, among others.

Geely also dipped their toes into the commercial market with Geely New Energy Commercial Vehicle Group. Their subsidiary brands LEVC and Farizon launched zero-emission range-extended taxis, vans, pure electric light trucks, and hydrogen fuel-cell buses. Also last year, they signed partnership agreements in Europe, Korean, and Middle Eastern markets for expansion.

Geely Holding also unveiled their open-source pure electric Sustainable Experience Architecture last year at the 2020 Beijing Auto Show. It means this architecture is open to brands and developers should they want to build an electric model of their own, making Geely a potential technology provider and OEM producer. The first model out of this platform is Lynk & Co’s ZERO Concept. With nearly one in ten vehicles sold by Geely Holding’s brands being electric or hybrid, it’s safe to say that the number will only increase as days go by, and their sustainable future vision is already on the horizon.
