Jeepneys to be phased out in Davao City

Davao City is set to phase out jeepneys following the implementation of the city’s integrated bus system.

According to a report by The STAR, the bus system, which aims to modernize the transport system and address traffic congestion in the city, is the initial stage of the planned high-priority bus system in Davao City.

Jeepneys that are plying the Catalunan Grande-Roxas Avenue and C.P. Garcia Highway-Sasa routes would be initially affected, according to Dioniso Abude, city transport and traffic management office chief.

The local government is working out a livelihood assistance for more than 440 operators and drivers who will be affected by the jeepney phase out.

Meanwhile, consultations on the affected routes and feasibility studies as well as bus lanes and waiting sheds are ongoing, according to the report.
