LTFRB eyes deployment of traditional jeepneys on Thursday or Friday

Traditional jeepneys that are deemed ‘roadworthy’ will be allowed to ply their routes either on Thursday or Friday this week, according to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

During a virtual presser on Monday, LTFRB chairman Martin Delgra said that although they are still completing the list of routes where traditional jeepneys will be deployed, those that are deemed roadworthy will be allowed to ferry commuters in Metro Manila by Thursday or Friday.

“Binubuo pa po natin yung listahan ng mga ruta ng mga traditional jeepneys but we’re looking at Thursday or Friday na ma-deploy na ‘yung mga traditional jeepneys on the routes that will be identified,” Delgra said.

The LTFRB earlier said that UV Express and traditional jeepneys will resume operations starting this week.

However, Malacañang clarified that only roadworthy traditional jeepneys will be allowed to operate.

The iconic vehicles dubbed as ‘King of the Road’ were not allowed to operate following the suspension of all forms of public transportation due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
