LTO warns against fraudulent Facebook pages

As scams continue to spread online, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) warns the public against engaging and transacting with fake Facebook pages posing as the government agency.

The fraudulent Facebook page LTO License Assistance Center or @OfficialLTOlicenseassitance offers processing of driver’s licenses, charging applicants from P3,500 to P6,500. This page encourages fixing through non-taking and non-appearance in the driver’s license exam.

The LTO reminds the public that licenses issued through the bogus account or any other individual outside the LTO office are counterfeit and invalid. Those who will be found with fake licenses will be met with stiffer penalties.

Those who interact with these pages should take caution as they are sharing private details online to unauthorized and unverified pages. They can be possible victims of identity theft and other unlawful activities if not careful.

To stop the spread of scam LTO pages, the agency urges Filipinos to mass report the fraudulent page.

To make sure you’re on the real LTO Facebook account, make sure the page has the blue checkmark next to its name. This identifies the page as verified. And to be certain, check if the page has the handle @lto.cdmpao on Facebook. Meanwhile, the agency’s official website is lto.gov.ph.
