MMDA mulls left side placement of bus doors

To match the new rationalized bus stops at EDSA, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) plans to transfer bus doors on the left side for the quick and efficient entry and exit of passengers.

According to MMDA chairman Danny Lim, the measure will prevent accidents and ensure the safety of passengers boarding and alighting at EDSA.

The MMDA built bus stops on the middle of EDSA after the transfer of bus lanes on the innermost lanes of the thoroughfare during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to speed up travel.

Currently, passengers must cross EDSA to board and alight from buses because of the mismatch in the position of the doors in public buses.

There are also bus stops that are located on the right side of buses, like the ones from Monumento to Quezon Avenue, and Estrella to Mall of Asia (MOA). The MMDA is currently in the midst of installing barriers along EDSA to fully enclose the bus lane, as well as placing new traffic signs and markers. – Danilo Garcia
