The opening of a 700-meter underpass is expected to improve traffic flow in Cebu City’s southern district.
After 22 months of construction, the P638-million underpass along the N. Bacalso Avenue and F.Llamas Street was formally opened on Saturday in preparation for the opening of classes, according to a report by The Freeman.
Cebu City Transportation Office operations chief Francisco Ouano said that there was a noticeable improvement in the traffic flow since the opening of the underpass yesterday.
However, Quano said that they have yet to observe if the traffic flow would be the same in the following days since there are at least seven schools along N. Bacalso Avenue.
He added that the city will not allow some 600 provincial buses and mini buses to use the tunnel to ease traffic congestion in the area.
However, two bus companies that have franchises from Talisay City to Cebu City have been allowed to ply the newly-opened underpass.
The construction of the underpass started in 2017. – With reporting from The Freeman
