Students get to enjoy free rides at Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2), and Philippine National Railway (PNR) trains starting July 1, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced on Thursday.
During a press briefing, DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade said that students can avail of free rides at select hours during weekdays (except holidays).
Under the Student Free Ride Program, students may get free rides at MRT-3 between 5 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Students may also enjoy free rides at LRT-2 from 4:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, PNR will also offer free rides for students from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Students from preschool up to college and those who are enrolled in trade, arts, technical, and vocational schools may avail of the program.
They only need to show their valid school ID to avail of the free rides.
Soon, the DOTr will launch a Student Free Ride ID which can be used on MRT-3, LRT-2, and PNR.
Students may apply online or inquire at Malasakit Help Desks situated at train stations.
