Cavitex-to-Sangley road eyed for opening this year

A proposal to build a spur road linking the Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) to the Sangley Air Base in Cavite is being targeted by the Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) within the year.

According to a report by BusinessWorld, MPTC president Rodrigo Franco said that the company is reviving its feasibility study for Cavitex’s Segment 5 to include an eight- to nine-kilometer extension towards Sangley Point in Cavite.

“We are looking into that, pero marami pang kailangan (but there are many things to do)… We hope this year meron na (there will be a) proposal that we submit,” Franco said.

However, Franco said that the MPTC still needs to talk to the Philippine Reclamation Authority, its partner in operating Cavitex, before making a formal submission to TRB.

The initial estimate cost of the project is “at least P10 billion.“

Cavitex is a 14-kilometer expressway which connects Roxas Boulevard to Cavite.

President Duterte ordered for the immediate operations at Sangley Point in order to decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The Department of Transportation vowed to fulfill the operational timeline set by Duterte by hiring additional workforce.
