Nine students were killed while 16 others were injured after a mini dump truck they were riding fell on its side – narrowly missing plunging off a cliff in Brgy. Upper Becirral, Boljoon town, Cebu on Friday.
The elementary students along with their parents and teachers were on their way to attend a sports activity in Barangay Poblacion when the accident occurred. Initial investigation revealed that the driver, identified as Danilo Niere said the vehicle suddenly lost its brakes while maneuvering along a downhill road in Sitio Lintongan.
The Freeman reported that the truck eventually slid and hit a hilly portion which prevented it from falling off a cliff.
The driver is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to property.
