Manila seeks franchise suspension for ‘route-cutting’ PUJs

The city government of Manila will file for the suspension of public utility jeepneys’ franchises plying the Baclaran-Divisoria route before the Land Transportation and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) over reports of “trip cutting.”

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno announced this during a press conference following reports that several jeepney drivers are reportedly not following their usual routes while operating within the city.

“Why would you pay P20 for a trip that should only cost P10? That’s unfair (especially) to the poor,” Moreno said in Filipino.

Moreno also warned jeepney drivers plying the MCU-Blumentritt route that they would be next should they continue to cut their trips. LTFRB chairman Martin Delgra welcomed Moreno’s move.

“We welcome the initiative of the city. We will accept whatever complaints they will file against those jeepney drivers and operators who cut their trips,“ Delgra said.
