After criticizing bus drivers for hogging lanes while picking up or dropping off passengers along EDSA, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority traffic czar Edison Nebrija on Tuesday also scolded private vehicle drivers for using the yellow lane, saying that the key to solving the worsening traffic situation is discipline.
In a Facebook live video by Nebrija, several drivers were caught crossing the yellow lane underneath the MRT-3’s Boni station.
MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia earlier ordered the strict implementation of the yellow lane policy that allots two of the five lanes along EDSA for city buses.
“Kawalan talaga ng displina problema natin. Itong mga private vehicles, ganun din. Hinaharangan din yellow lane natin. Paano makakausad public utilty buses na ito (Our problem is lack of discipline. It is also the case with private vehicles. They block the yellow lane. How can public utility buses move)?” Nebrija said.
Nebrija said that practicing discipline while on the roads is the key to solving the issue of traffic situation in Manila.
“Tingnan niyo, magagandang kotse yan, imposibleng hindi edukado itong mga ito. Pero ganun din, pasaway (Look at those nice cars. It’s impossible for the drivers not to be educated. But just the same, they are incorrigible),” Nebrija said.
Some drivers who were caught said that they were about to gas up at a nearby gasoline station. However, Nebrija did not believe their excuse.
After realizing that several private vehicles also violate traffic rules, Nebrija said singling out bus drivers as the cause for traffic jam along EDSA is not the case anymore.
“Now you see the problem. Ang problema natin, tayong lahat. Disiplina ang kailangan (The problem is all of us. Discipline is needed),” he said.
