Araneta-Aurora intersection to close for a week

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced that the Araneta-Aurora intersection in Manila will be closed to traffic for a week to give way to the construction of the Skyway Stagel 3 project.

The MMDA made the new announcement after the initial schedule set for August 15 did not go according to plan.

“That intersection is very busy. It will give way to the SLEX-NLEX connector,” MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said.

The closure will begin on August 24, ensuing from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., and is expected to affect around 17,000 to 18,000 motorists.

The MMDA advised the affected to take the following alternative routes:

From Shaw Boulevard or V. Mapa, go straight towards Magsaysay Boulevard then Santol Street, right at Palanza, Landargun or Bayani Road, then left at G. Araneta to the place of destination; from Cubao toward Manila area, along Aurora Boulevard, right at Guirayan Street, left at Palanza, left at Tomas Arguelles or Santol Street to Magsaysay Boulevard to place of destination; from N. Domingo and Blumentritt, take F. Roman, H. Lozada, and J. Ruiz Streets; for vehicles coming from the north, ply C-3 Sgt. Rivera, right at Bayani, Landargun and Palanza Street, left at Santol Street, left at Magsaysay Boulevard, then V. Mapa, Old Sta. Mesa to destination.

Meanwhile, trucks may take Quezon Avenue, E. Rodriguez Avenue, España Boulevard, Lacson Avenue, straight towards Nagtahan to the place of destination; or Magsaysay Boulevard, right at V. Mapa to Shaw Bouleavard, to destination.

The Metro Manila Skyway project is a 18.68-kilometer elevated expressway connecting Buendia in Makati to Balintawak in Quezon City. It seeks to reduce travel time from two hours to just 15 to 20 minutes. – With Marc Jayson Cayabyab/STAR
