A commuter who was about to board a jeepney was killed in a freak vehicular accident in Taytay, Rizal on Wednesday.
Dashcam footage posted by Niño Angelo P. Cortez shows a jeepney stopping at a red light along Ortigas Extension as passengers disembark from the vehicle. An unidentified man is about to board the public utility vehicle (PUV) but opts to give way to alighting passengers.
He moves to the side of the vehicle and is hit from behind by a truck, instantly killing him and dragging his lifeless body along the road as it is pinned under its tires.
“We are still in shock to witness this kind of accident… May you rest in peace manong,” Cortez said.
A similar accident occurred along EDSA-Guadalupe this month when a commuter slipped while running after a bus. The victim was killed instantly after he was rolled over by the vehicle.
According to the United Nations World Health Organization, road traffic deaths continue to rise, reaching 1.35 million fatalities yearly.
