The Department of Public Works and Highways is targeting to complete three of its EDSA decongestion program projects by the end of 2020.
According to DPWH Undersecretary Emil Sadain, the Bonifacio Global City-Ortigas Center Link Road, Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge and Binondo-Intramuros Bridge are expected to be completed within the first quarter of 2021.
However, Sadain said he secured the commitment of contractors and consultants to fast-track the implementation in order to accelerate the completion of the projects by the end of this year.
The P5.7-billion Bonifacio Global City-Ortigas Center Link Road Project is seen to reduce travel time between BGC and Ortigas’ Central Business District to 11 minutes. The project includes 362 meter rehabilitation and widening of Brixton (corner Reliance Street) to Fairlane Street and the construction of a 565-meter four-lane Lawton Avenue-Global City viaduct structure towards the entrance of Bonifacio Global City.
Meanwhile, the 506-meter Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge, which connects the cities of Makati and Mandaluyong, has been closed to vehicular traffic since 2019 to widen the bridge from two lanes to four.
The Binondo-Intramuros Bridge, on the other hand, will serve as a link between Intramuros and Binondo. The bridge, a four-lane carriageway with three-meter sidewalk, will have a total road length of 734 meters
The new bridges are part of the government’s program to decongest traffic in Metro Manila.
