The city government of Pasig has started working on additional bike lanes and sidewalk extensions after it declared that biking is an essential form of transportation in the city.
In a Facebook post, the Pasig Transport said that residents should expect road works starting May 10 in the following areas:
– Market Avenue
Pasig Mega Market Area
– Caruncho Avenue
Around the City Hall Complex
– Amang Rodriguez Avenue
East Bank to Marcos Highway
The city government earlier declared biking as an essential form of transportation in the city through Executive Order PCG-18, Series of 2020. The EO was signed on March 25 and was supported by the Sangguniang Panlungsod through Resolution No. 59 Series of 2020, which was passed on March 30.
Under the executive order, businesses in the city which are primarily engaged in the repair and maintenance of bicycles, including vulcanizing, as well as the sale of essential bicycle parts and accessories will be classified as essential and will be allowed to operate.
City departments have also been directed to evaluate areas of major pedestrian traffic and public transportation interchange to ensure that walking is a viable means of transportation in the city.
Additionally, they were also directed to identify key locations of bicycle infrastructure for repair, rehab, or upgrade – which includes degraded road conditions, rehab of protected lanes, upgrade of unprotected lanes, and intersection treatments.
