Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto is encouraging everyone to use bicycles as an alternative mode of transportation amid the implementation of general community quarantine.
In a Facebook live on Sunday, Sotto said that they are recommending bicycles to prevent traffic congestion in the city.
“We’re promoting bicycle riding and other alternative modes of transportation dahil alam po nating kung gaano katrapik dito sa Pasig.
The Pasig mayor said that they’ve proven that bicycles can be used as an alternative means of transport despite the hot weather in the country.
The city government of Pasig started working on additional bike lanes and sidewalk extensions last month after it declared that biking is an essential form of transportation in the city.
The city government earlier declared biking as an essential form of transportation in the city through Executive Order PCG-18, Series of 2020. The EO was signed on March 25 and was supported by the Sangguniang Panlungsod through Resolution No. 59 Series of 2020, which was passed on March 30.
