4 fire volunteers hurt in Manila vehicular mishap

Four fire volunteers were injured in a vehicular accident in Ermita, Manila past midnight Thursday.

According to the initial investigation, the accident occurred when the fire truck they were riding collided against a trailer truck at the intersection of San Marcelino street and United Nations Avenue at 12:30 a.m.

One of the fire volunteers said that they even tried blaring the siren in a bid to alert the driver of the trailer truck but to no avail.

All of the victims were rushed to a hospital. However, one of the fire volunteers, who was pinned under the fire truck following the vehicular crash, is in critical condition.

Authorities said that the driver of the trailer truck, identified as Mark Anthony Sabayan, attempted to run away but was eventually cornered by bystanders.

Sabayan is now detained at the Manila Police District Jail. He’s facing charges of physical injuries and damage to properties through reckless imprudence before the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office. – Danilo Garcia
