Three vehicles figured in a multiple collision along EDSA on Saturday, with one colorum van hitting a concrete post after the driver fell asleep, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

An L300 van, a Toyota Rush, and a Mitsubishi Mirage got involved in a multiple collision along the northbound lane of EDSA before Santolan flyover around 9:40 a.m. on Saturday.

The L300 collided with the two other vehicles due to overspeeding, according to MMDA traffic chief Bong Nebrija.

Three hours earlier, a UV Express hit the concrete post of the Metro Rail Transit-3 along EDSA Aurora tunnel.

The vehicle that came from Isabela rammed the post and hit the concrete barriers after the driver, who had no alternate, fell asleep, Nebrija said.

The driver will be charged for colorum operations after charging P2,000-P2,500 on the three passengers.

The MMDA official said Saturday’s accidents belied critics’ claim that the concrete barriers along EDSA Busway are to be blamed for road accidents.
