Operatives of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized on Monday a smuggled luxury vehicle with an estimated market value of P33 million.
According to the bureau, a McLaren 620R was declared as a brand new Porsche Cayman in a bid to avoid paying the appropriate duties and taxes worth P16,771,688 million.
“Allegedly the consignee Llorin Trading declared duties and taxes amounting to only Php 1,500,000 Million thus preventing the collection of Php 15,000,000 worth of revenues to the government,” the BOC said.
The BOC said that the consignee and broker of the shipment are now facing possible charges for violation of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
In 2018, President Duterte ordered the destruction of 30 smuggled luxury vehicles to deter smuggling in the country. Among the vehicles that were destroyed include a Mclaren worth P13.3 million, 10 BMW and Mercedes Benz cars, a Lexus and a Corvette Stingray.
After a couple of months, Duterte also ordered to destroy smuggled high-end cars in Nueva Vizcaya which include brands such as BMW, Porsche, Jaguar, Nissan, and Lamborghini.
