The Food and Drug Administration of the Philippines has warned the public against leaving alcohol bottles inside cars.
FDA Director General Eric Domingo explained that all types of alcohol are flammable and may ignite especially when left inside hot cars. He reminded that alcohol bottles should be stored in areas with temperatures below 30 degrees celsius. The warning came following a viral post about an alcohol bottle that exploded inside a sedan.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Joyce Ann Canlas shared that a bottle of isopropyl alcohol that her boyfriend left inside his car exploded due to warm temperature. Photos taken after the incident showed that the explosion damaged the car’s passenger seat, window and roof.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Fire Protection advised the public to store alcohol bottles in a well-ventilated room or cabinet and not in direct sunlight or heat. It added that leaving or keeping alcohol bottles inside a closed vehicle parked under the heat of the sun or in hot places is dangerous.
