Several people were hurt following a multiple vehicle collision in Manila on Wednesday.
The incident occurred when the driver of a black Honda Jazz attempted to avoid a traffic violation along Taft Avenue, according to an enforcer of the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau.
The enforcer, who flagged down the vehicle, said the motorist hit several cars and motorcycles along Taft Avenue before being cornered by authorities on Finance Road.
In a report by The STAR, Manila disaster risk reduction officer Arnel Angeles said that according to the initial report, the driver, identified as Anthony Santos, hit a total of 17 cars during the incident.
Six people were reportedly rushed to the hospital for back and leg injuries. One motorcycle back rider suffered a head trauma after she landed on the hood and hit the windshield of a red Mazda vehicle, which was also hit by the suspect, according to Angeles.
The driver claimed that he lost control of the vehicle and denied hitting other vehicles on purpose.
“Marami po syang naperwisyong motorista. Sabi ko nga, hindi ko alam kung bakit kailangan [niya] tumakbo. Napakasimpleng traffic violation, bakit kailangan tumakbo. Sabi nya wala raw preno. Yun daw ang dahilan wala raw preno,” the traffic enforcer said.
The driver will reportedly face reckless imprudence charges.
