The Department of Transportation (DOTr), together with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), has completed 497 kilometers of bike lanes in three metropolitan areas of Metro Manila, Metro Cebu, and Metro Davao.
These projects push for the goal to promote active transportation in the country through implementing pavement markings, physical separators, and road signages.
The projects have a total disbursement of P1.09 billion under the Bayanihan Bike Lane Networks Project.
In Metro Manila, 313 kms of bike lanes have been put in place amounting to P801,830,479.93. Meanwhile, in Cebu, the agencies have installed 129 kms of lanes amounting to P150 million and in Metro Davao, there are 55 kms of bike lanes amounting to P145,369,391.
“It is in fulfilling the desire of the public, and commuters, the DOTr has been implementing projects geared towards that end,” Secretary Art Tugade said.
“We intend to provide commuters with access to faster, and efficient means of mass transportation; to open infrastructure for active transportation such as walking and cycling,” he added.
The DOTr will inaugurate the completed bike lanes within the month.
