The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Thursday inaugurated the 1.48-kilometer Bonifacio Global City-Ortigas Center Road Link project.
The 1.79-billion infrastructure project, which partially opened on June 12, is seen to reduce travel time between Ortigas and BGC in Taguig from one hour to only 12 minutes.
“With the opening of the entire BGC-Ortigas Road Link Project, we are seeing significant traffic decongestion, or as much as 20 percent traffic volume from nearby Epifanio delos Santos Avenue and C-5 Road sections,” Public Works and Highways Sec. Mark Villar said.
The construction of the Bonifacio Global City-Ortigas Center Road Link project started in Oct. 2017.
It involves the rehabilitation and widening of the 362-meter Brixton Street (corner Reliance Street) to Fairlane Street, construction of a four-lane Kalayaan Bridge connecting Lawton Avenue in Makati City and Sta. Monica Street in Pasig City, as well as a two-lane, 565-meter viaduct which connects Lawton Avenue to the entrance of BGC.
The project is part of the government’s EDSA decongestion program which seeks to bring EDSA back to its original capacity of 288,000 cars per day.
