Toyota unveils another SUV in the all-new Veloz

Toyota unveiled last week an all-new version of what was once the flagship model of the popular Avanza subcompact MPV line. It’s the all-new Veloz, which crosses over into the SUV realm and now takes a new place as a standalone model in Toyota’s lineup of passenger cars and utility vehicles.

The launch, which was livestreamed for online audiences, took place at the High Street Amphitheater in Bonifacio Global City. Toyota dealerships across the country also hosted simultaneous reveals for their customers in their respective showrooms.

The all-new Veloz comes in two variants and has retails prices of PHP1,185,000 for the 1.5 G CVT and PHP1,225,000 for the 1.5 V CVT. Both variants come with a 4-cylinder, dual VVT-i gasoline engine mated to a (CVT) continuously variable transmission with three drive modes (Normal, Eco and Sport).

“The arrival of the all-new Veloz is very timely. With the reopening of the economy, and destinations all over the country already welcoming travelers, it is Toyota’s goal to address the ever growing need of Filipinos to move together with thrill and joy. And so we introduce this new subcompact SUV perfect for families and friends seeking to discover new adventures,” said TMP President Atsuhiro Okamoto during the launch.

The new subcompact 7-seater presents a more SUV-like exterior and a notably more premium feel inside the cabin. Riding on Toyota’s new global design platform, the new Veloz was engineered to deliver an improved driving and riding experience that combines higher levels of power, comfort, and safety.

Distinguishing the Veloz is its one-piece front end that combines a bold, blacked-out grille, split-type LED headlamps with sequential turn signals, and sporty-looking bumper with foglights. Complementing this is an equally commanding rear with distinctive LED taillamps connected by a red strip that runs across the tailgate. The stylish exterior also comes with sideview mirrors with auto fold and welcome lamp features as well as 17-inch alloy wheels. Exclusive to the Philippine model are the black overfenders to accentuate its SUV design.

Toyota clearly prioritized comfort and convenience in designing the new Veloz’s much more spacious fabric-and-faux leather interior. Notable features include keyless Smart Entry and Push Start System and ambient lighting. Underscoring the new Veloz’s increased flexibility is the highly configurable seating system that offers a “long sofa” mode as an added option.

A 7-inch TFT multi-information instrument panel works with a 9-inch multimedia display (8-inch for the G CVT variant), which is equipped with Apple Carplay and Android Auto for seamless mobile connectivity and control. Smartphone power users can rest easy on long drives as the new Veloz comes with wireless smartphone charging.

Like many new Toyotas, the latest Veloz boasts the very comprehensize (and high-tech) Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) suite of safety features, which includes Pre-Collision System, Automatic High Beam, Lane Departure Alert, all added on top of other standard and advanced safety features like the panoramic view monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitoring, Hill Start Assist, six SRS airbags, as well as an electronic parking brake with auto hold.

The all-new Veloz comes in four colors: Dark Red Mica Metallic, Black Metallic 1, Purplish Silver Mica Metallic and Platinum White Pearl Mica.
