2022 was a busy year for Toyota Motor Philippines. They launched a total of 12 cars that are either new models or updates to existing ones, approximately one new car every month. We were introduced to the Raize, the Veloz was separated from the Avanza, and new GR-S iterations entered the lineup among others.
Their total sales number for 2022 are in and their efforts in bringing in the cars all paid off. They sold a total of 173,245 units in 2022, up 34% from 2021’s 129,099. That’s despite the ongoing production shortage that affects the availability of vehicles in many markets. It’s also higher than their pre-pandemic number of 161,385 in 2019.
The Vios maintains its standing of being Toyota’s bestseller, moving 34,465 units into different homes nationwide. It’s followed by the Hilux, Innova, and Fortuner; while the Rush climbs into fifth place with 14,871. The previous 3rd placer Wigo drops to 6th place, moving 14,306 units.
Meanwhile, the Raize proved it’s a hit as it climbed up to 7th place with 13,279 units in its almost first full year in the Philippines (it was launched in February 2022). The top 10 is rounded off by the Avanza and Veloz who used to have a combined number of 8,185 back in 2019. Now in 2022, the Avanza is still in the MPV segment while the Veloz was moved to the SUV category. They sold 8,966 and 7,720 respectively.
Toyota had a more contemporary hybrid lineup in the RAV4, Camry, Corolla Cross, and Corolla Altis but they didn’t have a separate number for their specific electrified variants. In the sporty side of things, the 86 now has the lead in the performance cars of Toyota. It moved 61 units, while Supra was down to 35, and the GR Yaris had 29. Lastly, the Land Cruiser was able to get into 920 homes despite the very limited stock available worldwide.
