The Kia EV6 was first introduced to Filipinos during the 2022 Philippine International Motor Show. Back then, Kia PH only gave us an “under P4-million pesos” quote when we asked them about the price tag of their first full-electric vehicle in the country. A few months later and it’s now official – the Kia EV6 is available in the Philippines and comes in one variant priced at P3,788,000.
The EV6 is a notable car worldwide having won prestigious awards like the 2022 IF Design Award, 2022 Red Dot Award, 2022 European Car of the Year and US Car of the Year. To have it available in the country as we head towards the next generation of vehicles is truly remarkable. More so once you get to know its perks.
It’s powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor that generates 229ps and 350Nm of torque, paired to a single-speed transmission. During the launch event, Kia PH President Manny Aligada shared that the EV6 can go 0-100kph in around 7 seconds.
There’s a 77.4 kWh battery that allows the EV6 to reach 528km on a single charge according to EPA tests in the US. That’s like going from Trinoma to The Manor in Baguio and back even without regenerative braking. Charging time varies depending on the power of the charger. AC Normal charging at 11kW from 0-100% is at 7 hours and 20 minutes. Fast charging can be as quick as 18 mins from 10-80%, again depending on the charging source.
Alternatively, you can use the EV6 as a huge powerbank since it has a 3.6kW Vehicle to Load (V2L) feature that lets you power appliances and devices directly using the car’s batteries.
Kia also made sure that the EV6 is as good as it looks by fitting it with advanced tech. It has an intelligent LED front lighting system with auto levelling, flush door handles, powered tailgate, and a distinct lightbar at the back. Inside, there’s an almost symmetrical dashboard, a unified screen for the 12.3-inch gauge cluster and 12.3-inch touchscreen with Apple and Android, Meridian 14-speaker surround sound system, wireless charger, and side vents for the rear occupants. Both front seats have power adjust, lumbar support, and cooling but the driver’s seat has additional memory function.
It’s also complete with modern safety amenities. The EV6 has 6 airbags, multi collision brake system, smart cruise control, blind spot detection, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, forward collision avoidance assist, rear cross traffic collision avoidance, safe exit assist, driver attention warning, 360-camera system, and front and rear sensors. No wonder the Kia EV6 got a 5-star rating at the Euro NCAP.
“When the public eventually embraces our EVs, then Kia PH also fulfills its social responsibility and commitment to sustainable mobility, sustainable energy, and a sustainable planet. Soon, the Philippines will also reap the benefits of the environment-friendly shift towards greener motoring,” said Aligada.
The perks of the EV6 also goes beyond the spec sheet. If you buy one, it will come with a portable charger that you can use with your home’s regular electrical outlet. It also comes with a 5-year or 160,000km warranty for the vehicle, 8-years or 160,000km warranty for the battery system (whichever comes first for both cases), 5-years of FREE PMS, and 5-years of FREE 24/7 roadside assistance all for the price of P3,788,000.
The new Kia EV6 is available in Moonscape, Snow White Pearl, Runway Red, Yacht Blue, and Aurora Black Pearl. It’s initially available at select Kia dealerships in the country—Kia New Manila, Kia Alabang, Kia Sto. Tomas, and Kia Pampanga. Later on it will be available across all 42 Kia dealerships nationwide.
