Kia launches the new Seltos

Kia Philippines launches the new 2024 Seltos. The refreshed sub-compact SUV continues the automaker’s paradigm shift away from a value-oriented brand into an aspirational one. Competing in one of the country’s most competitive segments, the Seltos brings in a stronger aesthetic, a range of fuel efficient yet peppy engines, and the continued promise of easy ownership that has made Kia a household name locally.

Designed for millennials (aged 27 to 42 years old), the new Seltos brings Kia’s “Opposites United” design motif into the sub-compact SUV space. A larger Tiger Nose grille emphasizes its width, giving it a stronger appearance, with the grille bookended by new headlights. Vertically-oriented front fog lamps with integrated daytime running lights complement the bumper’s rigid shape, while standard 17-inch alloy wheels with a geometric pattern add a more rugged flavor. On the top-trim 1.4 Turbo SX, the Star Map signature lighting creates a distinct, recognizable first impression that’s echoed at the back with the same treatment done to the new full-width taillamps.

Under the hood, the new Seltos comes with two engine options: a normally-aspirated 1.5-liter Smartstream engine for the LX and EX and a 1.4-liter T-GDI engine for SX. The former packs 115 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque and is mated to an intelligent variable transmission or IVT. Meanwhile, the latter comes with 140 horsepower and 242 Nm of torque. The SX also gets a 7-speed dual clutch automatic resulting in a brisk 0 to 100 km/h time of just 9.7 seconds. It also comes with three driving modes: Normal, Eco, and Sport.

The new Seltos exudes segment-up levels of refinement and feature content inside. It offers a standard panoramic screen display that integrates the instrument cluster and center display. A 4.2-inch instrument cluster with digital gauges paired with 8-inch center display is standard, and a 10.25-inch instrument cluster paired with 10.25-inch center display comes on the SX.

Other notable improvements to the interior include a new crash pad with a modern, bold center garnish and a high-tech interface for the integrated control of infotainment and air conditioning features. Features include mood lighting, a panoramic sunroof, dual automatic climate control with rear vents, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless device charging.

In terms of safety, the Seltos gets dual SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, and electronic stability control as standard. It also comes with three-point seatbelts for all five passengers as well. The top-of-the-line SX benefits from 6 SRS airbags, Smart Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go functionality, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, and Parking Distance Warning.

It comes in the following colors: Snow White Pearl (LX, EX); Gravity Gray (LX, EX); Pluton Blue (SX); and Snow White Pearl w/ Black Roof (SX). Standard on all variants is a 5-year or 160,000-kilometer warranty. The variants currently on display in showrooms are the Seltos LX and EX.
