Toyota reveals the full specs and options of the soon-to-arrive Tamaraw

Just a few months after the locally produced prototypes were previewed in Davao, Toyota Motor Philippines finally revealed the specs of the upcoming new Toyota Tamaraw. There are a number of options including engine, transmission, wheelbase, and body but no prices were revealed yet.

The first choice to make with the Tamaraw would be the wheelbase, as they have a specific powertrain that goes with it. The short wheelbase models measure 2,750mm wheel to wheel. They have a 2-liter gasoline engine that makes 139 PS, 183 Nm of torque, and paired with a 5-speed manual only. All models will be based on a single-cab chassis and available as a Utility Van (FX), Dropside truck, or Aluminum Van. The FX will come with a rear air conditioning system as standard.

Meanwhile, the longer model has a wheelbase of 3,095mm. They are run by a 2.4-liter diesel engine that puts out 150 PS and 343 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed manual. This configuration will be available for the same bodies as the short wheelbase. However, there’s an additional Dropside High model that has more pull despite having the same engine. That’s because it’s paired with a 6-speed automatic pushing the torque to 400 Nm.

This Dropside High model also comes with creature comforts. It has a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Power Adjustable Side Mirrors. It’s safer too with Front Airbags, ABS, and EBD.

Apart from these standard bodies, Toyota offers two sets of conversion and customization for the Tamaraw. Toyota Motor Philippines can sell it as a Police Patrol Van, Ambulance, Refrigerated Van, School Bus, Freezer Van, Telco Van, Insulated Van, and Patient Transport Mobile. On the other hand, Toyota Mobility Solutions will offer it as a Camping Car, Food Truck, Roving Pet Grooming Truck, Mobile Store, Mobile Service Vehicle, and as a Fire Truck.

Toyota also made it easier to acquire the Tamaraw. They introduced a 7-year term called Kabuhayan on Wheels Financing via Toyota Financial Services. There’s also a Weekly Payment Plan available for those seeking a more flexible payment scheme.

The Tamaraw also features warranty for its models. Apart from the standard 100,000km or 3-year warranty of the vehicle, the rear body of the units come with a 12-month warranty, while the Utility Van has a 36-month warranty. There are also insurance perks like Roadside Assistance, Free 1st Claim Deductible, and Upgraded Loss of Use though it’s subject to additional premium.

Toyota didn’t share any details on the pricing or launch date of the Tamaraw. If you want to see it in person, check out the Facebook page of Toyota Motor Philippines as the Tamaraw will be displayed in various locations nationwide.
