Toyota treads the fine line of practicality and green mobility at 2024 PIMS

It’s remarkable how Toyota Motor Philippines is keeping the balancing act in their lineup. Their booths for the 2024 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) show that there can be two sides in one’s (near) future.

On one side are the options you have with the practical and versatile next-generation Tamaraw. We’ve already seen some of the body options available so here at PIMS, Toyota showed what can be done if you let your imagination run free.

The next-generation Tamaraw can be your cool single-cab truck for hauling bicycles, big bikes, and small trailers. It can also be your companion in camping trips, glamping or overlanding – whatever you prefer these days. The Tamaraw can also be your partner in your business as it can accommodate a lot of custom body types.

Aside from the versatility of the body, the Tamaraw also comes with three powertrain setups to choose from. There’s the 2-liter gas engine that’s paired to a 5-speed manual only that produces 139 horses and 183 Nm, a 2.4-liter diesel engine that’s also paired to a 5-speed MT with figures at 150 PS and 343 Nm of torque; and its pull goes higher to 400 Nm when coupled to a 6-speed automatic.

In a way, the next-generation Tamaraw shows Toyota’s desire to further help Filipinos. Beyond that, Toyota has included the Philippines for its Beyond Zero goal. That is they want to reduce and in time, totally minimize their emissions to help make the planet greener and pass it onto the next generation. They are doing that by introducing hybrid cars in our market and at PIMS 2024, they flaunted 2 EVs.

First of which is the Toyota Kayoibako, a battery-electric vehicle that is as versatile as they can get. It can be fully equipped with software and hardware that can be customized for different purposes and people. One day it serves as the delivery car for your business and on weekends, it takes you out to nature trips. Aside from zero emissions, it embodies Toyota’s other goal of “Mobility for All.”

The bZ4X is a more familiar EV silhouette for Filipinos. This was originally a concept car in 2021 and retail sales started in 2022. This 5-door crossover is available in other markets with an All-Wheel Drive and a range of up to 530 km. It’s not yet available in the Philippines though but it gives us a sneak peak of what to come from Toyota’s garage.

Aside from electric vehicles, Toyota showed their interpretation of a cleaner source of energy. On the test drive area sits the Corolla Cross H2 Concept. The one we have in the Philippines is a hybrid of combustion engine and electric power. The H2 Concept combines a combustion engine with Hydrogen as its clean energy source. What’s more amazing is its engine is based on the GR Corolla race car developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing Team but this Corolla Cross H2 has virtually no emissions.

While Toyota is still mum on when the next-generation Tamaraw will be officially unveiled, they’re consoling us with a preview of their latest premium sedan. The new Toyota Camry will ‘soon’ be launched nationwide and it will feature an improved hybrid electric system over the current model and more advanced technology. Luxury and performance  It wears the Beyond Zero emblem, symbolizing a dedication towards reducing emissions. This makes the Camry a great choice for executives who value sustainability as much as they do sophistication.

Beyond Zero is truly exemplified at Toyota’s booth at the 2024 Philippine International Motor Show. See it for yourself until October 27, 2024 at the World Trade Center.
