Sison-Rosario TPLEX segment temporarily opened, is toll-free

If you are having seconds thoughts on driving up to Baguio City this Christmas season because of heavy traffic, you’ll be glad to hear that going to the City of Pines is now 30 minutes faster following the temporary opening of the Sison-Rosario segment of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX).

Last Sunday, the four-kilometer segment of TPLEX, which stretches from Brgy. Cauringan in Sison, Pangasinan to Brgy. Subusub in Rosario, La Union, was quietly opened to motorists.

However, the new segment of the expressway will be closed again in January 2020 to pave the way for its completion.

For now, motorists traversing the new TPLEX segment won’t have to pay the toll fee.

Motorists heading to Baguio via TPLEX may exit through Pozorrubio towards MacArthur Highway then make a left turn to the Sison-Rosaio segment heading to Rosario.

Meanwhile, Department of Public Works and Highways Sec. Mark Villar recently said the National Economic Development Authority will “most likely” approve the unsolicited proposal of San Miguel Corp. to extend the expressway from Rosario, La Union up to San Juan, La Union.

The proposed extension includes an 18-kilometer road from Rosario to Tubao, a 23-kilometer stretch from Tubao to Naguilan, and another 18.4 kilometers from Naguilian to San Juan.
