Provider, protector, hero. Just a few words to describe our fathers in the light of the dedication and sacrifices they make just to make sure that food is always on the table, children are kept in school and needs of the family are met.
In response to this selfless love and care, a lawyer’s surprise gift to his father is currently tugging a lot of heartstrings in social media.
Sacrifices for a quality education
In a viral tweet, lawyer Daniel Kristoffer Ocampo shared how his father decided to sell the family’s 2005 Fortuner to fund his review for the 2019 bar exams.
“Kailangan kasi ng medyo malaking budget especially me, coming from the province, I have to pay for my board and lodging, also my daily allowance, etc. Eh wala na kaming ibang choice but to dispose a property in order to raise a fund for my review,” Ocampo said.
Daniel eventually passed and, two years later, is currently a practicing lawyer in a private firm at their hometown in Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija.
Paying it back with a surprise
Now financially able, he decided to pay his dad back with a surprise of his own — a brand new Toyota Fortuner.
“My dad sold his old Fortuner para may pangreview ako sa Bar Exam. Sabi ko palitan ko na lang pag abogado na ko. Hehe. So, eto na… Enjoy and advance happy birthday!” he wrote.
Ocampo said that he did not pay in cash, the car is amortized and he was only able to afford the downpayment. He likewise thanked his boss, lawyer Bembol Castillo, who supported him and helped him raise funds for the car.
Proud moment
In the tweet, Ocampo also shared the “proud moment” photo of his parents posing alongside their brand-new Fortuner. The vehicle is also a birthday gift for his dad who turned 64 today, Sept. 23.
Ocampo shared that his father had a “priceless” reaction after seeing the gift, a fulfillment of the promise made in the midst of his reviews for the bar. And even with facemasks on, the happiness of both parents can be seen clearly in the photo.
“Ngayon ko lang ulit nakita na ganun kasaya ang tatay ko. Special gift ko ‘yan kay dad cause I made a promise na papalitan ko ‘yung pinakamamahal niyang Fortuner. ‘Yan talaga inuna ko sa savings ko,” Ocampo concluded.
