Kia Philippines, under the arm of AC Industrials, recently launched an exciting, new vehicle – what it likes to describe as its ‘iconic’ Kia Stonic. The 2021 Stonic is a stylish subcompact crossover gifted with many lifestyle features and sold at a sub-one-million peso price point. It is comparable with subcompact cars in terms of size and performance, except with a bit more to offer — like greater ground clearance at 185mm, which is about 65mm of additional allowance compared to average subcompacts. It is easy to drive and maintain, and is thus an attractive product for millennials and first-time car buyers.
AC Industrials Chairman and CEO, Arthur Tan, expressed that he is confident that the new Stonic will be a frontrunner for Kia and that it will play out beautifully alongside their other volume sellers such as the Soluto, Seltos, and K2500.
The Stonic is 4,100mm long, 1,735mm wide, and 1,532mm high. Its 2,570 wheelbase — which is about 120mm longer than the typical subcompact length — provides for some roomy legroom and comfortable cabin space. Its tiger-nose grille, roof rails and 16-inch alloy wheels all add to the overall sporty vibe. The chic crossover is modeled with European design cues, as was envisioned by Kia’s German chief designer, Peter Schreyer. Its trendy and functional attributes have won the Stonic a string of global awards such as recognitions from the renowned iF Design and Red Dot Awards.
Powering the 2021 Kia Stonic is a thrifty 1.4-liter dual CVVT engine mated with either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. The manual variant generate 95ps of power, while the version with the automatic delivers 100ps.
Its entry-level variant is the manual LX, sold at an introductory price of P675,000; while its mid-range option is the LX automatic, sold at P785,000. Its top-of-the-line variant is the Stonic EX, which already has LED Daytime Running Lights, a rear parking sensor, rearview camera, and some extra safety features such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Hill Start Assist — all exclusive to the EX. It is currently on offer for a promotional price of P875,000.
Inside the Stonic is a six-speaker eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Baggage storage is also generous with 325 liters of storage space, and even more with the 60:40 split rear seats folded flat.
Safety-wise, the Stonic comes with dual front airbags, ABS, ISOFIX child anchors and a child lock as standard. The top-of-the-line EX variant comes with additional driver-assistance features.
Moreover, the Kia Stonic gets a five-year or 160,000-km warranty (whichever comes first), and free 24/7 Roadside Assistance free for five years. The latter covers emergency towing, minor onsite repair, and even medical assistance and a handy information service as part of the package.
Kia also promises to have Kia genuine parts easily available and in good stock — especially for the Stonic — focusing on the common maintenance and collision parts. An online customer care service is also available, to assist and expedite client concerns. Alongside that, Kia has also launched its new virtual showroom.
The Stonic is available in the trendy colors of: Prime Red, Extreme Blue, Clear White; and in two-tone colors (for the EX) that combine black with either: Flame Orange, Flash Yellow or Clear White. It is manufactured in Kia’s ‘Korean International Plant’ in China, under the mother company’s strict global standards.
