Automobili Lamborghini presents the Lamborghini Huracán STO (which stands for Super Trofeo Omologata), a road-homologated super sports car inspired by the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO and the Huracán GT3 EVO—the model which won the 24 Hours of Daytona three times and the 12 Hours of Sebring twice.
Powered by a naturally aspirated V10 engine producing 640 hp and 565 Nm, the rear-wheel drive Huracán STO can accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds, and to 200 km/h in 9.0 seconds. Top speed is 310 km/h. The new model’s wider wheel track, stiffer suspension bushings, unique anti-roll bars and Lamborghini’s MagneRide 2.0 feature are all race car-derived, as do its quicker gear changes and more direct rear-wheel steering system.
“The Huracán STO is the purest incarnation of Lamborghini Squadra Corse heritage, directly transferring technologies from the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO and drawing on the Huracán GT3 EVO’s unique accomplishment of winning three consecutive times in the Daytona 24 hours,” said Stefano Domenicali, Automobili Lamborghini chairman and CEO.
Every aspect of the Huracán STO is designed to meet the aerodynamic efficiency and lightweight technologies demanded in motorsports. The Huracán STO has an entirely new exterior design to optimize airflow. Its hood, fenders and front bumper comprise a single component called “cofango,” an amalgam of “cofano” (hood) and “parafango” (fender). Besides being light, cofango is a timesaving access feature in motorsports.
New air ducts in the hood increase airflow through the radiator and help in generating downforce. The cofango incorporates a splitter that directs air to the redesigned underbody of the car, the rear diffuser, the top of the front fenders, and around the front wheels to reduce drag. A revised rear hood gets an integrated air scoop to improve cooling, as well as a “shark fin” to enhance aerodynamics. Helping out in producing downforce is a manually adjustable rear wing.
All this results in the Huracán STO having the most downforce in its class. The new model’s airflow is 37 percent more efficient and it has 53 percent more downforce compared to the Huracán Performante.
Also, more that 75 percent of the Huracán STO’s exterior panels use carbon-fiber, increasing the car’s structural integrity while also reducing weight. At 1,339 kilograms, the Huracán STO is 43 kilograms lighter than the Huracán Performante.
Three new driving modes are fitted to the Huracán STO, namely STO, Trofeo and Pioggia. The default STO mode is best for driving on curving roads. Trofeo mode is designed for dry tarmac and for getting the fastest lap times on a track. Pioggia (rain) mode optimizes traction control, torque vectoring, rear-wheel steering and ABS on wet surfaces. All three modes are controlled by the Lamborghini Veicolo Dinamica Integrata.
Without doubt, the Huracán STO is a road-legal Lamborghini super sports car that can post lap records.
