Chery Tiggo 2 & Tiggo 5x—Best-value SUVs for the new normal

Safe, dependable mobility—personal and for family—has never been more vital than it is now. But at what price? As cars become more stylish and more loaded with features, prices inevitably go up.

What used to be fully equipped small sedans in the P700,000 range are already in the P900,000 ballpark while the P600,000-plus category are mostly tiny hatchbacks.

But did you know that for just under P700,000, you can get a true compact SUV with the high ground clearance to give you the confidence to negotiate Metro Manila’s notorious flash floods?

Chery Tiggo 2—The easy-on-the-pocket full-featured SUV

This is the P695,000 Chery Tiggo 2, and it’s the new brand’s entry-level SUV. The Tiggo 2 is powered by a strong yet fuel-efficient DOHC 16-valve Euro 5-compliant 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and has a space-efficient body with a generous wheelbase of 2,555mm.

The sleekly styled Tiggo 2 boasts very upmarket dynamic headlights with LED daytime running lights matched by equally upscale-looking taillights. It also comes with a stylish and functional spoiler under the front bumper, side skirts, and a rear wing. The Tiggo 2 is even available with stylish two-tone black-top finishes that combine with red, orange, blue, or white lower body colors.

The interior of the Tiggo 2 has a unique 2-tone, class-exclusive orange-and-black combination that gives its cabin a sporty and upscale ambience. Its ergonomic dashboard has an integrated central console which flows seamlessly from the dash, giving the Tiggo 2’s controls a more natural and more comfortable feel.

Cargo space is commodious at 420 liters, and may be further expanded, thanks to the 40:60 split-folding rear seats. Versatility comes from the 21 individual storage spaces found throughout the cabin.

For infotainment, there’s an eight-inch touchscreen with smartphone screen mirroring, which lets you access and mirror your Android or Apple smartphone on the Tiggo 2’s display. The Tiggo 2’s display supports 1080p HD videos. The system also has a USB port, so you can enjoy high-quality multimedia files onboard with support for almost all documents, pictures, music and video formats. The Tiggo 2’s touchscreen is also equipped with a reverse radar + reverse image with dynamic guidelines to help you maneuver safely.

Last but not the least, the Tiggo 2 is equipped with Hill Hold Control (HHC), which keeps the vehicle from rolling backwards on an uphill incline, as well as Electronic Stability Control (ESC), which helps ensure vehicle control on slippery roads.

A unique safety feature not common among cars is the Tiggo 2’s speeding alarm system in which you can set a certain speed between 40 to 120 km/h to prevent unintended overspeeding, which also comes with the M/T shift reminder to ensure smooth and fuel-efficient driving. The Tiggo 2 also has an automatic real-time Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

The Chery Tiggo 2 comes with manual or automatic transmissions: the 1.5 M/T (P695,000) and the 1.5 A/T (P770,000). The two-tone variant retails for P795,000.

Chery Tiggo 5x—High-end features, space and style starting at P818,000

If you want even more space and features in your SUV, but don’t want to shell out much more of your hard-earned funds, then the Tiggo 5x’s great value and polished performance are for you. This stylish compact crossover punches above its weight with a dazzling array of standard features inside and out.

The bold blacked-out grille, black mesh grille side air intakes, and aggressive-looking headlamps give the Tiggo 5x that “Euro-inspired” front end that is both compelling and characterful. The Tiggo 5x’s 17-inch diamond-finish alloy wheels are crafted using a complex diamond process and applied with a dual color glossy finish for a truly upscale look. The Tiggo 5x’s side mirrors are integrated with turn signal lamps for added driving safety.

The Tiggo 5x boasts a very spacious cabin, thanks to excellent space utilization that provides generous headroom, leg room, and shoulder room for both front and rear passengers, improving the riding comfort of all occupants. The impressive cargo area can accommodate up to 10 cabin-size suitcases with the rear seats up, and much more when the 60:40-split seats are folded down. Leather seats, silver dash trim, and a power sunroof add even more luxury.

Like the Tiggo 2, the Tiggo 5x has a 1.5-liter, DOHC, 16-valve four-cylinder engine (with a Borg-Warner D-VVT valvetrain), but tuned to deliver more power without any sacrifice in fuel efficiency.

Examples of many safety features standard in the Tiggo 5x are Hill Descent Control, which allows the car to safely descend steep roads in full control and Hill Hold Control, which automatically uses the brakes to prevent the car from rolling backwards when you want to accelerate from a standstill on a slope.

The Tiggo 5x also boasts a 360-degree around-view-monitor, which provides more viewing angles and wider vision for a stress-free drive. The Tiggo 5x’s instrument display utilizes a seven-inch LCD, which is the largest in its class. There is also another biggest-in-class display: the huge nine-inch touchscreen display which pairs with your phone, song and radio via Mirror Link.

On the Tiggo 5x’s steering wheel, it has intelligent speed control, which integrates cruise control, overspeed alarm, active speed limit as well as the usual audio controls. It even has one-touch push-button operation for all four windows.

Retail prices of the Chery Tiggo 5x are as follows: P818,000 for the entry-level Tiggo 5x MT, P860,000 for the Tiggo 5x AT, and P950,000 for the top-of-the-line Tiggo 5x Luxury.

The Tiggo 2 and Tiggo 5x are available via easy-on-the-pocket financing promos.

All Chery models come with an industry-leading 10-year/1 million-km engine warranty, a five-year general warranty, and a free full preventive maintenance service (PMS) for three years. Test drive the Chery Tiggo lineup at any of the 22 safety-protocol-compliant dealers nationwide.
