The new Innova gets some tech updates

In an online launch held in their Facebook page, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) revealed the newest iteration of their best-selling MPV. The new Innova aims to maintain being the top tier choice for a family vehicle with its updates in design and tech. It also made choosing the right variant simpler by dropping the gas engine option and only putting the 2.8 diesel engine across all trims.

“Reaching up to 240,000 proud Innova owners to date and catering to a wide range of needs and preferences of Filipino families and drivers, the Innova indeed raises the flag, and symbolizes excellence in the local manufacturing industry,” said Sherwin Chualim, TMP’s First VP for Marketing.

The biggest change is upfront with the redesigned bumper. It now features the same face as the Hilux and Corolla Cross with the trapezoidal front grille with slimmer slats joined by a black cladding accentuating the lower part. This black part houses the foglights in a lower position, while the turn signal lamps are now made bigger and housed in its own black housing by the side of the bumper. There’s new 17-inch rims for the V-trim while the G and E variants also get a new 16-inch rims.

Inside, the G and V variants get new interior aesthetics courtesy of the Noble Brown and Black upholstery and they also get speed-sensing door locks. All except the J variant get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with the new touchscreen unit.

Safety is still paramount with all variants getting ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, Vehicle Stability Control, and Hill Start Control. There’s airbags for the front passengers while the V trim goes beyond with 7 airbags all around. A rear camera is now also standard for the V and G variants, in combination with their rear parking sensors.

Under the hood is still the same 2.8L diesel engine that produces 171hp and 360Nm of torque for the 6-speed automatic variants, while the 5-speed manual trims get the same engine but at slightly less output with 167hp and 343Nm of torque.

The new Toyota Innova is already available in dealerships across the country and now starts at P1,186,000 for the J variant and tops out at P1,739,000 for the V variant.
