A tough-love letter to Mom

Hey Trailblazer,

I know you’re out on the road for a few days now, and most likely you’ve arrived at my wedding destination by the time you read this, but I want to thank you for the all the lessons that you’ve taught us and the wonderful memories you’ve given us.

You know I’m not that articulate when it comes to matters of the heart, (and I think we both know where I got that trait from lol) though once we do, it’s like wearing accessories for those special occasions.

Speaking of occasions, today marks a celebration for the strongest four-letter word aside from Jeep – – Moms.

I remember back when I was 5 years old, the family went on a road trip with the old 1976 CJ7 Jeep Renegade that your dad passed down to you. It was the first time I saw you drive, and you looked so happy and carefree, while I almost shit my jumpers because of the trembling sounds and the rocky roads we were trailing off to. I asked, ‘how are you having fun with this horrifying experience?’ and then you laughed and said, ‘Honey, in life, there will always be things that’ll scare you and there will be unexpected obstacles that’ll be presented to you, may you like it or not. Might as well face it head on and have fun while doing it. Life’s too short to live out of fear.’ After that road trip, I learned how to be brave and to have fun while doing it.

The second most memorable life lessons that you’ve taught me was when I was learning how to drive uphill on the mountain and failed so many times. You comforted me and said ‘Honey, in life, it’ s okay to fail with your attempts, as long as you keep moving forward. And besides, the sun never sets on the mighty Jeep. We have time to kill ’til you succeed.’ And after days of practice, I finally went up that hill. Thank you for encouraging me to never stop believing and persevere.

The 3rd most memorable lesson was just last year, the time I’ve had my first car purchase as a gift to you. You thought I was buying for my own, and told me ‘before you decide on anything, Honey, in life, know what’ s compatible for you, make sure it’s the right decision and stick to it, and once you get the hang of it, you can help others in the process, using that car.’ so I carefully thought of what to buy, and the Jeep Gladiator fits you well, inside and out. And you were so surprised when you found out it was yours. After that purchase, I also applied that in every aspect of my life, and I’ve learned to help others in the process.

Side note: sorry If I accidentally broke the head lights a few days after. Don’t worry. I think there’s a promo of the LED accessories for the Gladiator and Renegade. I promise to purchase after this week.

But the most memorable one out of all the moments I’ve mentioned, was when I drove to your house in the middle of night because John and I broke up. And you said ‘Don’ t worry, Honey, we’ll just store him on the trunk bed and ditch his body by the river.’ LOL. But you also said ‘There will be times when the journey has served its purpose. So, on to the next destination until you find the best view.’

And without your tough love, I wouldn’t be the person who I see myself to be, and I wouldn’t end up with the person I love the most. Best view indeed. Thank you.

In a few days, you’ll be sending me off to a guy that I’m about to marry, and this would be the most tear-jerking experience that we’ll be having by far, and of course this is not a goodbye. We will be having more memories once I get to that point when I become a mother. And once I do, I hope to be as tough as you.

Thank you, mom.

Have fun out there.

See you in a few shakes.

Love,

Your Daughter
