In Japan, research organization Mercari R4D and a team of students from the University of Tokyo showed off their latest development: Pomio, an inflatable motorcycle that riders can stash in their backpack. Talk about ultimate portability.
Pomio stands for portable and inflatable mobility. Its body is made of thermoplastic urethane (TPU) and has detachable parts like its handles, wheels, battery, and motor. Despite its inflatable frame, the material is said to be “sufficiently strong to carry a person while simultaneously allowing soft deformation and deflation for storage and portability.”
This portable motorcycle uses a small electric motor found in its wheel. Poimo works like Baymax in Disney’s Big Hero 6—it can inflate and deflate in just a minute’s time with an air pump. There’s no need to worry about parking with this stashable bike.
As for other specs, this bike sports two eight-inch front wheels, two six-inch rear wheels, a build-in wireless controller, and a 70x110mm-long battery. It also just weighs 5.5kg in total. It also doesn’t run on gasoline and makes minimal noise.
